If you’ve watched the show ‘Nashville’ (first on ABC, then picked up by CMT) you’ve heard of the Bluebird Cafe. It’s a real place and a place where intimate shows are still held and songwriters still perform. Since being on the show, it has gained popularity and reservations are hard to come by. There are, however, a number of first come/first serve seats available for the first 10-15 people. Doors opened at 5:30 and we were told to get there at least an hour before to secure entry.
Bob is one of those people - and his Instagram shares pictures of his recent travels in Iceland, Norway and tropical destinations like Guatemala and Belize. He is from Montreal, and if it weren't for Instagram, our paths probably would never have crossed. Heck, if we weren't both in Iceland roughly a week ago, our accounts probably wouldn't have crossed, either.
Days 4 and 5 have been very relaxed and spent in and around Reykjavik. There were a few things, like the cat cafe, Phallological museum and Nautholsvik (geothermal beach) around town we wanted to visit.
We had a full day today! Lots of waterfalls, rainbows + a beach! From Instagram and travel blogs, I had a few waterfall locations I knew I wanted to go to. There's also a little town named Vik that has a black sand beach, Reynisfjara, nearby that I wanted to visit.
Today we decided to venture out to the Golden Circle, which is a route between multiple stopping points - Þingvellir national park, Gullfoss falls and a geyser geothermal area. It was a little under 2 hours of a drive from our airbnb right outside of downtown Reykjavik and the scenery the whole time is ever-changing between mountains, little towns and rocky flatlands.
Wow, the time is finally here! I'm in Iceland and we've (we being boyfriend Chris and I) navigated smoothly from the airport which included picking up the car rental and finding our Airbnb. We took off from Tampa on Tuesday, landed in Cincinnati around 6PM where we camped out in the airport until our flight to Iceland took off at 1AM.
Another way you can find out in real time what life is like where you're going is by using Snapchat! If you pinch your fingers on the opening camera screen in the app, it takes you to the Map. You can watch stories from all around the world - so scroll to your destination, look for the blue glowing circles that indicate there is something there to watch, and voila! Real time, real people, real life footage of the area.
None of us had been abroad, and February, our departure date, finally came after some searching on Google and using Duolingo to try to learn the language basics. We were going to have a rental car, two hotels and free range to do whatever we wanted.

If you’ve talked to me within the last year, there’s a really good chance (we’re talking like a 95% chance here) you’ve heard me endlessly talk about wanting to move to Chicago. I’ve been searching apartments, talking about Chicago, following social media pages of places in Chicago, the list goes on and on.
